Key Responsibilities of a Secondary Teaching Assistant:

• Provide one-to-one and small group support to help students stay focused and make academic progress.

• Assist teaching staff in delivering engaging, inclusive, and differentiated lessons.

• Support students with additional learning needs, including those with SEN and behavioural challenges.

• Help promote a positive and respectful learning environment.

• Encourage student participation, confidence, and independent learning.

• Supervise students during non-classroom times, including break and lunch periods.

Requirements for a Secondary Teaching Assistant:

• Experience working with secondary-aged students (in schools, tutoring, or youth work settings).

• A good understanding of SEN, Autism, ADHD, and behaviour support strategies is desirable.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• A patient, adaptable, and proactive approach to student support.

• Ability to work as part of a team and take initiative when needed.

• An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
