As an SEND Teacher in this specialist setting, you’ll be the trusted adult a child looks to for reassurance, the one who helps them find their voice, and the teacher who makes learning feel possible for pupils who’ve often faced barriers in education.

Reed Education are proud to be working with a highly regarded specialist provision in Barnsley, rated Good with Outstanding behaviour by OFSTED.  The successful candidate will be joining a supportive, forward-thinking team at a growing academy trust, dedicated to delivering tailored education and care to children with a range of needs. While many pupils have a diagnosis of Autism, this is not the case for all, and a flexible, child-centred approach is essential to supporting every individual.

About the School

Our client is a specialist school, providing education for pupils aged 3-11 with a range of complex SEND, including:

  • Autism spectrum conditions (ASC)
  • Social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs
  • Speech, language and communication (SLCN) needs
  • Sensory processing difficulties
  • Developmental delays and cognition and learning needs

The Role

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons that are tailored to meet the individual needs of pupils with EHCPs, with a focus on communication and interaction.
  • Use a range of approaches to support learning and communication, including PECS, AAC, Makaton, and Attention Autism.
  • Support the development of pupils’ social, emotional, and academic progress in line with their EHCP outcomes.
  • Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team, including support staff, therapists, and parents/carers.
  • Contribute to the wider school community and ongoing development of the trust’s SEND provision.

  • Have prior experience teaching in a specialist setting or supporting pupils with SEND in a mainstream environment.
  • Be confident using a range of communication strategies to support pupils with complex needs.
  • Have strong knowledge of the primary curriculum and experience adapting it to suit diverse learning needs.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to inclusive education and high expectations for all learners.
  • Be creative, flexible, and willing to "think outside the box" in their teaching approach.
  • Be a team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Be resilient, compassionate, and ready to go the extra mile for their pupils.
