The Role

The successful candidate will provide strategic and academic leadership to the English department, overseeing the delivery of a rich and engaging curriculum across Key Stages 3–5. This is a key leadership position with responsibility for driving excellence in teaching and learning, managing a team of enthusiastic teachers, and nurturing a passion for literature and language across the school.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the English department, ensuring high standards of teaching, learning, and student achievement

  • Teach English across Key Stages 3–5, including GCSE and A-Level

  • Oversee curriculum development, assessment, and departmental strategy

  • Mentor and support the professional growth of team members

  • Promote innovative and engaging approaches to English teaching

  • Organise and support extracurricular activities such as book clubs, writing competitions, and theatre trips

  • Contribute to the wider life of the school, including pastoral responsibilities and whole-school initiatives
