Butler Rose is delighted to be supporting a well-established and highly regarded accountancy practice in Bedford in their search for an experienced Bookkeeper. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys client-focused bookkeeping work and is looking for a long-term, stable role within a professional and friendly environment.

The Opportunity:

You'll be joining a close-knit Bookkeeping and VAT team responsible for supporting a diverse client portfolio. This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in accurate bookkeeping and VAT work and is not looking to progress into general accounting.

Key Responsibilities:

Day-to-day bookkeeping for a range of clients across various industries
Preparation and submission of VAT returns (including multiple VAT schemes)
Preparation of management accounts
Handling CIS return submissions
Supporting clients with cloud accounting software (Xero, QuickBooks, Sage)
Advising clients on Making Tax Digital
General administrative tasks as needed

What We're Looking For:

AAT qualified or qualified by experience
Solid background in bookkeeping, ideally gained in an accountancy practice
Proficient in cloud-based accounting software and Excel
Excellent communication and organisational skills
Strong attention to detail
Someone who enjoys working in a dedicated bookkeeping role and is not seeking progression into wider accountancy work

The Offer:

Salary: £25,000 - £30,000 (Full-Time Equivalent)
Hours: 22.5 to 37 hours per week - flexible for the right candidate
Holidays: 25 days + bank holidays (pro rata)

Office-based role in Bedford with occasional client visits (driving licence and own car required)
