My client have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Precision Tool Fitter to join their expanding team. The ideal candidate will take great pride in their work and be responsible for mechanical assembly, testing and acceptance of tool units that produce foil caps at rates of up to 750 per minute. Typically, a tool unit will take around one week to complete and the fitter builds and tests the complete unit from start to finish. The units are incorporated in our range of bespoke capping and sealing equipment which are sold worldwide. The average tool unit will be used for up to 75 million punches in its lifetime before reconditioning.
The ideal candidate would have press tooling or precision engineering experience combined with excellent machining and hand fitting skills.

Key Duties

  • To fit, assemble, and test new tool units and all associated parts and assemblies.
  • To ensure that all parts and assemblies are correctly fitted and assembled together in accordance with the agreed tolerances and procedures.
  • To build new tool unit assemblies and repair and refurbish existing tool units to an as new condition.
  • To carry out testing of the tool units in accordance with agreed procedures.
  • To assist with the building or repair of complete press assemblies when required.
  • To work as part of the highly skilled mechanical assembly team.

A typical tool unit build comprises of the following main activities:

  • Honing.
  • Surface grinding.
  • Drilling.
  • Milling.
  • Fitting.
  • Assembly.
  • Setting of punches and dies.
  • Building and setting of forming assembly.
  • Building and setting of ejection systems (mechanical and air).
  • Achieving critical dimensions via machining.
  • Functional testing at operational speeds.
  • Fault finding and rectification.
