Our client has a vacancy for an In-House Solicitor to provide legal support and advice to the different business functions which rely on daily in-house legal support and guidance and, in so doing promote the goals of their expanding company. Initially this will mean spending time understanding the whole business, building key internal relationships, and in future, acting as an ambassador for the legal function in each contact made.

The role:

  • Produce witness statements and other documents relating to actions brought against the business.
  • Attend the county courts (whether in person or remotely) to represent the business in civil matters as may be required. This may include, directions, application, final or other hearings.
  • Respond to claims and complaints for breach of contract, negligence and misrepresentation.
  • Support the business to ensure regulatory licences are up to date, new licences are applied for (where applicable) and renewals are submitted in a timely fashion.
  • Reviewing and negotiating contracts of varying value.
  • Responding to emails sent to the Legal email inbox.
  • Research any new legal or regulatory matters which may arise and produce guidance on new areas.
  • Respond to legal queries from within the business.
  • Review and produce legal documents, for example NDA’s, settlement letters etc. in line with business standard terms.
  • Take responsibility for own administrative tasks relating to matters being worked on such as scanning, filing, e-mailing, producing Excel spread sheets or PowerPoint presentations, typing and archiving.
  • Assist the senior members of the team producing reports and presentations for the CEO.
  • Respond to data subject access requests submitted to the department and dealing with other matters relating to the data subjects’ exercise of individual rights in accordance with the data protection legislation.

Essential requirements:

  • Minimum 4-year post qualification experience.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Commercial and business acumen.
  • The ability to work under pressure and stick to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to multi-task as you will be dealing with multiple matters/tasks at once.
  • Good administration skills e.g. typing, filing and letter writing.
  • Ability to work well independently, as part of a team and with other departments.
  • Organisational skills.
  • Ability to adapt communication style for audience.
  • Can do attitude and friendly demeanour.
  • Experience in a commercial law environment.
  • Efficient at using Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Discretion and professionalism.
  • Keen to learn.
  • Flexibility.
  • Comfortable with a changing environment

Desirables:

  • Experience working with data protection, including but not limited to, data subject access requests.
  • Experience of/keen to work in an in-house legal team.
  • Experience of following and implementing new processes
