Berry Recruitment are currently looking for a Head/Second chef for our client in Bideford for a temporary to permanent position.


Hours: 50 hours per week

We are seeking a creative and experienced Chef to lead our kitchen operations, develop innovative menus, and ensure the highest standards of food quality and presentation. The ideal candidate will have a passion for culinary arts, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to delivering exceptional dining experiences.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and prepare diverse menus that reflect seasonal ingredients and customer preferences.
  • Supervise kitchen staff, including cooks, prep workers, and dishwashers.
  • Ensure food is prepared and presented according to established standards.
  • Monitor inventory levels and order supplies as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised kitchen environment.
  • Adhere to food safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Train and mentor kitchen staff to improve skills and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with management on pricing, budgeting, and cost control.
  • Stay current with culinary trends and incorporate new techniques and ingredients.


Qualifications:

  • 5 years + experience as a Chef or in a similar role.
  • Culinary degree or equivalent professional training preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of cooking techniques, kitchen equipment, and food safety standards.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks.
  • Creativity and attention to detail.


Working Conditions:

  • Fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Standing for extended periods and lifting heavy items.
  • Option for on site accommodation if looking to relocate


Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with international cuisines or speciality diets (e.g., vegan, gluten-free).

  • Ability to develop and cost recipes

A successful candidate would need to perform a varied range of daily duties within a busy hotel kitchen.

You'll be working within an already seasoned and experienced group of professionals, therefore previous industry experience would be preferred.
