Job Title: Toolmaker / Bench-Hand

Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled Toolmaker / Bench-Hand to join a high-performing team in a precision engineering environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and repairing press tools-from single blank tools to complex multi-stage progression tools-ensuring they operate to fine tolerances and deliver "right first-time" performance in production.
This is an excellent opportunity for both newly qualified apprentices and experienced toolmakers who are looking to grow within a dynamic and fast-paced setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Repair and maintain tooling to pre-determined standards and timelines
- Strip, rebuild, and regrind tools for maintenance and repair
- Analyse tooling issues using recognised problem-solving techniques
- Support tool try-out processes and production troubleshooting
- Report key spares and repair needs to the Toolroom Lead
- Mentor apprentices and trainees
- Promote Health & Safety practices and proper use of PPE
- Champion continuous improvement through 5S standards
- Assist tool setters during shifts as needed
Tooling Types
- Fixed Standard: Die set with precision guidance, fixed location punches, material thickness > 0.5mm
- Precision Fixed: Full-length die set with precision guidance, +/-0.001mm tolerances, material thickness (phone number removed)mm
- Modular: Modular die set for in-press changeover, reduced changeover time (SMED), +/-0.001mm tolerances
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Apprentice trained with relevant craft or technician qualification
- Strong communication, planning, and scheduling skills
- High attention to detail and ability to interpret technical drawings
- Proven problem-solving abilities
- Good numeracy and literacy
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Previous press toolmaking experience
Preferred:
- Experience with precision progression tooling
- Familiarity with tungsten carbide tooling
- CAD experience
