About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Principal Substation Engineer to join a leading engineering consultancy. This is a unique opportunity to take a senior role within the substation discipline, supporting the Chief Substation Engineer and leading the successful delivery of substation work packages. The successful candidate will play a key part in establishing a reputable and profitable UK presence within the transmission and distribution (T&D) sector.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead, approve, and verify engineering roles on substation work packages and projects.

Act as a CDM Principal Designer representative when required.

Mentor and develop junior engineers, fostering world-class engineering expertise.

Drive the integration of advanced techniques and innovative solutions in substation design.

Ensure safety in design, technical excellence, and ethical decision-making.

Engage with the wider engineering community to develop thought leadership and best practices.

Manage relationships with key industry stakeholders to support business development.
Qualifications & Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.

Substantial experience (12+ years) in the electricity industry, with at least 10 years focusing on T&D substation engineering.

Chartered Engineer status (desirable) and membership of a relevant professional institution (e.g., The IET).

Expertise in substation design, including conceptual and detailed engineering, and the use of CAD/BIM procedures compliant with ISO 19650.

Proven leadership in delivering high-quality substation engineering packages, on time and within budget.

Familiarity with UK safety, health, environmental, and waste management legislation, including CDM Regulations (2015).

Excellent communication, mentoring, and team management skills.

Willingness to work autonomously and as part of a collaborative team.
