Production Operative - Strong Room BirminghamWe are Cooksongold, and we’ve been proudly supporting jewellers across the country since 1918, with everything from precious metals to jewellery tools. We form part of the HM Precious Metal Group, one of Europe's largest refiners and processors of precious metals. Based in the heart of the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter, we are a friendly, well-established but growing business of 280 employees. We are currently seeking a detail orientated Production Operative to join our team working in our Strong room. In this role, you will have the responsibility for ensuring all precious metal is accurately booked in and checked for the correct alloy, and weight and assigned to the correct location. You will play a critical role in ensuring precious metal for our production teams is of the right specification, ready to use and accounted for. Your main tasks will include - Make up batches of metal to various specifications (9ct, 18ct 22ct) ready for melting by the castors - Once metal is cast, take samples and send them to our in house laboratory for assay testing - Record assay results and issue the metal to the various production departments - Ensure all scrap metal returned from the various production departments is processed and assigned to the correct stock location - Deal with enquiries and issues from the Production Team Leaders and Sales department - Machine cast bars (using a horizontal milling machine) - Participate in monthly stock checks To succeed in this role, you will ideally have milling and drilling skills and previous experience of working in a similar role or of working in a production/engineering environment. You should have a keen eye for detail and be able to work well as part of a team and independently. You should have a good standard of mathematics as the role will involve calculating weights and amounts and you should also be comfortable using computers especially Word and Excel. You should also have strong communication skills both telephone, in person and email and be comfortable liaising with people at all levels.
