Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Birmingham

Salary: Negotiable

Hours: Monday – Thursday 0730 – 1600 and Friday 0730 – 1230

The Role

The Mechanical Design Engineers role will be the ‘hands-on’ design of the solution, both overlooking the mechanical design of the product whilst implementing de-risking and design proving techniques to ensure the design is fit for purpose, compliant with all technical and legislative requirements and suitable for manufacture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Production of 3d Solid models such as Solidworks, Detail Drawings, General Arrangement drawings and Bills of Material to support the conceptual design and conversion to manufacture.
  • Production of the necessary design documentation to substantiate the design and application to the project (performance calculations / FEA, test plans, material and component selection justifications, etc.).
  • Take responsibility for the technical compliance of the mechanical design to the customer’s specifications, including (but not limited to) Safety and Legislative compliance.
  • Work with the electrical engineers to ensure a completely integrated solution is developed.
  • Work with Manufacturing, Assembly and Test functions to incorporate lessons learnt to improve the design.
  • Follow the design process to ensure all mitigations and approvals of the design are in place at the correct stage.
  • Have experience of generating change documentation and presenting justification as well as understanding of configuration management and the link to change process.

Accountabilities

The Mechanical Design Engineer will be accountable for the technical solution to achieve the design requirements laid down in the technical specification and to ensure the product is suitable for manufacture, assembly and test.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Any electrical or electronic design experience, including integrating electrical solutions into the mechanical design
  • Experience working in a management role, leading a project / small team
