Behaviour Mentor – Autism and SEMH – KS3 & KS4 – BirminghamA specialist SEND school in Birmingham is seeking a dedicated Behaviour Mentor to join their team, supporting secondary-aged pupils in Key Stages 3 and 4 with Autism and associated challenging behaviours. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of young people with additional needs.As a Behaviour Mentor, you will provide consistent, tailored support to help pupils manage their behaviour, build positive relationships, and engage in their learning. Working closely with teachers, support staff, and external professionals, you will play a key role in ensuring that pupils are given the strategies and encouragement they need to thrive in a safe and structured environment.Responsibilities include:
  • Supporting pupils on a 1:1 and small group basis, addressing behavioural and emotional needs
  • Helping pupils develop coping mechanisms and positive behaviour strategies
  • Working collaboratively with teachers and other staff to maintain a calm, supportive learning environment
  • Monitoring and recording behaviour incidents in line with school policy
  • Acting as a positive role model, building trust and resilience in pupils
  • Contributing to the wider school team to ensure the best possible outcomes for pupils
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Experience supporting young people with Autism and challenging behaviours, ideally within a school or specialist setting
  • Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to de-escalate situations calmly
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with pupils and staff
  • A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach to working with young people
  • A genuine commitment to helping pupils achieve their potential both academically and socially
