To take responsibility, ownership and accountability of the successful management and control all aspects of the commercial / financial and contractual elements of designated projects within a Division in order to control and maximise the company's profitability, protect the company's legal and contractual obligations under the contract and to manage proactively the control of all commercial issues

Description

  • Lead and manage the commercial team to achieve project objectives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients and consultants.
  • Take full accountability for the commercial delivery and performance of assigned projects.
  • Support, mentor, and develop junior team members.
  • Promote collaboration across departments with a focus on best practice and behaviours.
  • Assist with pre-start planning, subcontractor procurement, and contract programming.
  • Manage subcontractor accounts, variations, and payment processes to minimise disputes and risks.
  • Oversee cost control, change management, and maximise project profitability.
  • Support material procurement in collaboration with buyers.
  • Monitor project cash flow, complete monthly reporting, and ensure timely valuations and payments.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate commercial and contractual records.
  • Assist with tender estimates and negotiations for future phases and projects.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and company standards.
  • Foster strong client and consultant relationships to encourage future opportunities.
  • Manage risks effectively to protect the company's commercial interests.

Profile

  • Strong track record of commercial management on main contracting projects.
  • Broad construction knowledge across different build types (e.g., concrete frame, timber frame).
  • Excellent numeracy, influencing, and organisational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work professionally under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Experience mentoring and developing junior team members.
  • Understanding of cash flow management and cost forecasting.
  • Dispute and claims resolution experience is advantageous
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management (or equivalent).
  • Working toward professional membership (e.g., RICS, MCIOB) - desirable
