Birmingham City Council is seeking an experienced Social Work Team Manager to join our Early Intervention Community Team (EICT). This team plays a vital role in supporting older people across Birmingham, following the Care Quality Commission (CQC) review and system-wide diagnostics that shaped our Early Intervention programme in 2018.
Your new role
As Team Manager, you will lead a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, cost-effective adult social care services. You will ensure statutory responsibilities are met, drive service improvements, and embed best practice in line with the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and Mental Health Act 1983.Key Responsibilities
- Manage and motivate staff, fostering a strengths-based approach and citizen-focused outcomes.
- Oversee service delivery, ensuring compliance with safeguarding policies and making safeguarding personal principles.
- Lead multi-agency planning, reviews, and decision-making meetings.
- Quality assure practice through audits, case reviews, and performance monitoring.
- Manage budgets and contribute to financial accountability processes.
- Support partnership development and community-based prevention initiatives.
- Provide supervision, identify training needs, and promote continuous professional development.
- Deputise for the Head of Service and cover other Team Managers as required.

What you'll need to succeed
- Qualified Social Worker registered with the appropriate professional body.
- Strong leadership and team management skills within adult social care.
- In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation and safeguarding practices.
- Ability to influence, negotiate, and build effective partnerships across agencies.
- Experience in budget management and service improvement.
- 2 years post-permanent qualifying experience in another local LA
