Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant – Autism & Complex Needs
Pay Rate: £13.84 per hour
Location: Birmingham
Hours: 9.00am – 3.00pm
Start Date: September 2025
Smart Education is currently recruiting Level 2 Teaching Assistants to support children and young people with autism and a range of complex needs in a nurturing and inclusive special school setting in Birmingham. We have full-time and part-time opportunities available, including 5-day long-term roles and flexible day-to-day work from September onwards.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to make a real difference in the lives of young people aged 3 to 19, supporting pupils with persistent differences in social interaction, communication, emotional regulation, sensory needs, and behaviour. Successful candidates will join a warm, experienced team that prioritises teamwork, pupil wellbeing, and staff development.

Essential Requirements:
• Level 2 (or higher) Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)
• Previous experience working with children in an educational, SEND, or care environment
• Strong communication skills and emotional intelligence
• A calm, positive, and team-focused attitude
• A genuine passion for inclusive education and supporting SEND pupils
Key Responsibilities:
• Support pupils on a 1:1 or small group basis, helping them engage with the curriculum
• Promote emotional regulation, independence, and a positive learning environment
• Assist with sensory needs, behaviour support, and classroom engagement
• Work closely with teaching staff and other professionals to deliver holistic support
• Maintain clear boundaries and consistent support tailored to individual needs
