Controls Project Engineer sought for an established automation and drives engineering business, delivering complex control system upgrades and bespoke solutions across a wide range of industrial sectors. This role is site-focused, supporting customers primarily across the North East, with office-based work when not on customer sites.

Controls Project Engineer - The Role:

You’ll be responsible for delivering controls projects from concept through to commissioning, with a strong focus on upgrading legacy systems and designing modern Siemens-based solutions from scratch.

• Upgrading older Siemens and Rockwell-based systems to Siemens S7-1500 with integrated Siemens safety
• Designing and programming Siemens TIA Portal systems
• Working on large-scale process equipment including:
  • Steel processing systems
  • Test cells
  • Plastic film winding
  • Drive winders, tensioners, power cells
  • Cable and wire winding machinery
•   Site commissioning, fault finding, and customer support

Projects are varied, hands-on, and technically challenging — ideal for someone who enjoys seeing a system through end-to-end.

Controls Project Engineer - The Person:

• 5+ years’ experience of a Control Systems Engineer within manufacturing/industry
• Fully conversant with Siemens TIA Portal and able to design systems from scratch
• Experience upgrading legacy PLC and safety systems preferred
• Comfortable working on customer sites and being flexible when required
•  Experience with:
• Exposure to MV / HV systems would be highly beneficial (or a strong desire to develop in this area)

You’ll be asked to demonstrate your Siemens capability during the process — examples of previous work are encouraged. The team is currently expanding to reduce lead times for customers, so this is a genuine growth hire with plenty of project variety.

Located in County Durham, this role would be commutable from Sunderland, Newcastle upon Tyne, Gateshead, Middlesborough, Peterlee, Hartlepool, Seaham, Washington, Newton Aycliffe, Redcar and surrounding.
