We're looking for a passionate and proactive Energy Advice Officer to join our team, based in Blackburn. In this dynamic role, you'll support households facing or at risk of fuel poverty by offering practical, tailored energy-saving advice both remotely and through home visits.
You'll play a key role in reducing energy costs for vulnerable residents by installing low-tech energy-saving measures such as LED lightbulbs and radiator reflector panels, while empowering them with the knowledge to use energy more efficiently. Your work will include community drop-ins, energy advice events, and partnership building with local organisations to ensure holistic support—including referrals to services for debt management, wellbeing, and employment.
Please note this role is an FTC lasting until the 31st of March 2026.

Requirements
Outline of key responsibilities for the Energy Advice Officer...
People and relationships
- To create and maintain excellent referral links with partner organisations across the region and to raise awareness of the project through a means of different marketing techniques.
- To refer clients on to other organisations offering support in areas such as wider debt management, health and wellbeing and education.
- Work in partnership with internal teams and external partner organisations such as Food banks and the DWP to target and provide support for vulnerable households.
- Attend and participate in relevant forums and networks as agreed with line manager.
- Provide a home visit service to vulnerable customers in their homes, providing information, advice and support in energy related matters
- Deliver a programme of energy advice to customers, including home visits to vulnerable customers, drop ins in the community and energy advice events to tenant and community groups.
- Deliver a programme of energy advice events to tenant and community groups, providing information and advice on energy related matters.
Performance
- Manage incoming referrals and complete assessments for households experiencing or at risk of fuel poverty to help reduce energy costs and access support. Support will be provided over the phone and in person.
- To give advice on how to reduce energy use in the home and support to fit low tech energy saving measures in people's homes such as LED lightbulbs, draught proofing strips, draught excluders and radiator reflector panels
- Maintain accurate records, on the Management information system, of customer interactions and progress.
- Develop and maintain a suite of energy advice literature and e-learning materials for use by customers, partners and staff.
- Provide energy advice training to front line staff in order that staff can be equipped to provide basic energy advice to customers.
We are looking for someone who has...
- A full UK driving license and access to a vehicle
- Experience working towards targets (You will need to complete 9 home visits each week)
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Experience working with vulnerable customers
- Knowledge of how to recognise fuel poverty, along with ability to provide advice and support to customers in order to address fuel poverty.
- A knowledge of safe guarding
