S&D Trade Recruitment is supporting our client, a well-known manufacturer, in the search for a technically skilled and proactive IT Support Technician to join a successful business based at its Head Office in Bolton. With a strong regional presence and a network of retail outlets across the North West, this role is crucial in supporting both head office operations and remote store locations.  The successful candidate will be part of a small, dedicated IT team, providing comprehensive technical support across business systems, retail technologies, and infrastructure. Due to the nature of the role, a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential. A pool car will be available during the working week. The role will involve travel to retail sites as well as occasional out-of-hours and weekend support.  This is a varied and hands-on position suited to someone with broad IT knowledge and a practical, customer-focused approach.  Salary £28,000 - £34,000 dependant on experience.  Hours Monday to Friday from 8.30 am to 4.45 pm.  On-call every other Saturday morning from 8.30 am to 11.00 am for store visits if required, prior notice will be given on this, telephone availability.

IT Support Technician Key Responsibilities Include

  • Providing day-to-day IT support to internal users across the business, including troubleshooting incidents, handling queries and managing service requests.
  • Maintaining and supporting the company’s EPOS systems, including software, hardware and peripherals across all retail outlets.
  • Delivering training and first-line support to retail staff and office users throughout the North West region.
  • Installing, configuring and maintaining desktops, laptops and servers, as well as supporting remote users.
  • Supporting Microsoft technologies, including Active Directory, Exchange, Windows Server 2012 and 2019, DNS, DHCP and Group Policy.
  • Administering virtual infrastructure using VMware and maintaining backups using Veeam.
  • Providing mobile device support and management using MobileIron (MDM).
  • Assisting with the management of cloud-based services, including Microsoft Office 365 and Microsoft Azure.
  • Supporting the use and maintenance of the company’s ERP systems.
  • Monitoring and maintaining networking equipment, including switches and VLANs.
  • Providing basic firewall support and managing network connectivity across multiple locations.
  • Supporting and maintaining CCTV infrastructure across the business.
  • Liaising with external suppliers and third-party service providers to ensure timely resolution of issues and system improvements.
  • Maintaining detailed technical documentation and asset records.

IT Support Technician Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a technical support role or similar IT position with exposure to a broad range of technologies.
  • Practical working knowledge of Microsoft SQL, with the ability to manage and troubleshoot databases.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows Server environments, including setup, maintenance and user administration.
  • Strong understanding of networking principles, including DNS, DHCP, VLAN and switch configuration.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and experience supporting Microsoft 365 and Azure environments.
  • Familiarity with virtualisation tools such as VMware and backup solutions such as Veeam.
  • Experience with ERP systems and mobile device management platforms, preferably MobileIron.
  • Confidence in troubleshooting hardware and software issues across various devices.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to support users at all levels of technical ability.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is required. A pool car is available during the working week.
