The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Civil Design Engineer with a background in water and utilities design to join an integrated engineering team. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering both infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects, taking designs from concept through to detailed design, construction, and commissioning support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and undertake civil and drainage design activities in accordance with client specifications and relevant design standards.

  • Develop design solutions through all project stages, including drawings, calculations, reports, and cost estimates.

  • Attend client and project meetings, ensuring clear communication and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Review and check design outputs to maintain accuracy and quality.

  • Support planning, programming, and commercial management activities.

  • Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies, attending relevant engineering events and expos.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members, technicians, and apprentices.

  • Collaborate with other design disciplines to ensure cohesive and integrated project delivery.

  • Promote a culture of health, safety, and environmental awareness across all activities.

  • Uphold company values and maintain strong relationships with clients, project teams, and stakeholders.

Skills & Experience Required
  • Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering (or related discipline); Chartered or working towards chartership (e.g. ICE membership) preferred.

  • Proven experience in civil design for water treatment or utilities projects, including drainage, clean water, and separation systems.

  • Strong understanding of UK Water Industry and Sewer Sector Guidance standards.

  • Proficiency in design software such as InfoDrainage, AutoCAD, Revit, and Civil 3D; familiarity with BIM integration is advantageous.

  • Sound knowledge of hydraulic design principles, including manual calculation methods and hydraulic profiling.

  • Experience in designing slabs, hardstandings, and other structural elements.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively.

  • A proactive approach to learning, innovation, and professional development.

  • Full UK driving licence required.
