HGV Mechanic/Technician - Waste Collection Business
Shift Pattern: 4 on, 4 off – 6:30am to 7:00pm

Are you an experienced HGV/LGV Mechanic looking for a new challenge? This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established, growing business where you’ll play a vital role in keeping a busy fleet roadworthy, safe, and compliant.

The Role

Reporting to the Workshop Foreman, you’ll be responsible for planned, preventative, and unscheduled maintenance on a wide range of vehicles. You’ll ensure all work is carried out to the highest standards and fully documented, helping to minimise downtime and maintain legal compliance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair vehicle faults in line with DVSA roadworthiness standards.
  • Record all work carried out on the fleet maintenance software.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance to ensure vehicles are safe and available for use.
  • Aim to achieve a 100% MOT first-time pass rate.
  • Attend roadside breakdowns, carrying out repairs or arranging recovery where necessary.
  • Work closely with colleagues to keep the workshop running efficiently.
  • Follow health and safety procedures, including correct use of PPE and maintaining a clean, safe workspace.
  • Support the Workshop Foreman with equipment checks and other workshop tasks as required.
Skills and Experience
  • Previous experience in an LGV workshop.
  • Category C licence (essential).
  • Knowledge of DVSA’s Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness.
  • Good understanding of transport operations and compliance.
  • IRTEC Inspection Technician (or willing to complete within 6 months).

Desirable but not essential:

  • Category CE licence.
  • IOSH Working Safely certification.
  • Knowledge of ADR vehicle regulations.
  • Experience in the waste industry.
