Electrical Design Engineer (Intermediate, Senior & Principal Level) – Building ServicesLocation: SouthWalesWe're currently representing a forward-thinking, expanding building services contractor looking to grow their in-house electrical design team. This is a unique opportunity for Electrical Design Engineers at Intermediate, Senior, and Principal levels to join a progressive business working on high-profile, technically challenging projects across the commercial, education, healthcare, residential, hospitality, and retail sectors.About the RoleAs part of the electrical design team, you'll play a key role in delivering high-quality engineering solutions tailored to each project. The level of responsibility will be aligned to your experience, with clear expectations and progression opportunities outlined below:Intermediate Electrical Design Engineer
  • Contribute to the design and delivery of electrical systems under the guidance of senior staff
  • Produce calculations, schematics, and layout drawings using industry-standard software
  • Attend project meetings alongside senior engineers and assist with client communication
  • Begin to take ownership of smaller project packages
  • Actively develop technical knowledge and design capabilities through mentorship and training
Senior Electrical Design Engineer
  • Lead electrical design on medium to large-scale projects across multiple sectors
  • Act as the main technical point of contact for clients and external consultants
  • Manage project timelines, design deliverables, and coordination with other disciplines
  • Mentor and support Intermediate Engineers and Trainees
  • Contribute to design strategy, innovation, and quality assurance processes
Principal Electrical Design Engineer
  • Provide technical leadership across multiple projects, ensuring high standards and compliance
  • Take full ownership of complex project delivery from concept to completion
  • Represent the business at a senior level in client meetings and design team workshops
  • Oversee design resource planning and support strategic decisions across the department
  • Drive innovation, sustainability, and best practices within the design team
  • Act as a senior mentor, fostering a collaborative and knowledge-sharing culture
What We’re Looking ForRegardless of level, we’re seeking engineers who are proactive, detail-driven, and collaborative. The successful candidate will demonstrate sound engineering principles, a commitment to quality, and an ambition to grow within a supportive team environment.Key Requirements:
  • Degree in Building Services Engineering or HNC/HND equivalent
  • Strong understanding of BS7671 Wiring Regulations
  • Familiarity with current design standards, legislation, and sustainable design solutions
  • Proficiency in industry-standard design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Amtech, Dialux/Relux)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Contracting experience is beneficial but not essential (training provided)
  • Must have the right to live and work in the UK
