Solution Architect Central Government

Location: Bristol, hybrid working from home 4 days per week
Salary: £90-100K plus excellent benefits package

Security Clearance:Due to the secure nature of this work all applicants will be required to gain UK Security Clearance to SC level. You must have been resident in the UK for at least the last 5 years and cannot have been outside the UK for more than 28 days on any one occasion within this time.

Our client is a specialist software consultancy focused on solving complex challenges across Central Government and national security projects. They are looking for a talented Software Solution Architect to join their agile and collaborative software delivery team. You will play a leading role in shaping innovative, scalable solutions across backend systems, data pipelines, and modern web platforms, directly contributing to meaningful outcomes for Governmentclients.

Key Requirements

We are seeking a versatile and experienced Software or Solution Architect with a proven track record of delivering complex software solutions in client-facing environments. Consulting or Government / Public Sector experience is highly desirable for this role.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Proven experience as a Software or Solutions Architect across varied technical environments.
  • Strong full-stack knowledge with a passion for cloud-native development (AWS is essential, Azure, private cloud is beneficial).
  • Expertise in designing and delivering end-to-end software solutions, including from initial discovery to operational support.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate client needs into actionable technical designs.
  • Deep understanding of agile methodologies and team leadership, including Scrum and Kanban.
  • Ability to write clear technical statements of requirements and contribute to operating model designs.
  • Experience working with open-source technologies and modern engineering practices.

Role & Responsibilities

As a Software Solution Architect, your role will include:

  • Designing and delivering full-stack software architectures from scratch.
  • Leading agile engineering teams, ensuring delivery quality and adherence to best practices.
  • Architecting and reviewing solutions for cloud-native environments, including AWS and Azure.
  • Writing and validating technical documentation including SoRs and operating models.
  • Acting as a technical advisor to Government stakeholders, contributing to long-term strategic solutions.
  • Driving technical innovation and staying ahead of technology trends.
  • Cultivating strong client relationships and supporting team growth and collaboration.
  • Guiding projects from early concept through to deployment and support.
