My client is seeking a Newly Qualified Contentious Probate Lawyer (0-4 years PQE) to join their well establish and well known office in Bristol.

Under the umbrella of the Dispute Resolution department are several specialist teams focusing on contentious probate: property litigation, employment, commercial litigation, and general civil disputes.

The successful candidate will be required to take on a caseload advising on all types of contentious probate matters, inheritance and Will disputes, and opposed and unopposed applications under overall supervision from the Head of Department. The scope of the role will provide the opportunity to work alongside and give advice to other departments and teams, including Debt Recovery, Family, Court of Protection, Property Litigation, and Probate and Estate Administration.

The role

• Disputes arising out of lifetime transactions• Burial and ashes disputes• Grant disputes• Will and trust disputes• Claims by and against Personal Representatives• Disappointed beneficiary claims• Claims against Professional Advisers (professional negligence)• Taking instructions, keeping detailed file notes of instructions received and of advice given and of any other attendances upon clients and other parties.• Preparing cost estimates for matters.• Issuing letters of engagement.• Taking forward matters including drafting and/or considering relevant documents such as pleadings, statements, bundles, costs schedules, applications, and orders.

The ideal candidate

• Qualified Lawyer or FCILEx (0-4 years’ PQE)• Experience in litigation and/or private client work, and looking to specialise in contentious probate.• IT literate and confident using and adapting to new systems and processes.• Enthusiastic about business development and networking.• Membership of ACTAPS (the Association of Contentious Trusts and Probate Specialists) is an advantage, but not essential.
