Positive Employment is currently recruiting for a Lawyer for our client a local government organisation in Bristol.
The successful candidate will work on the property team undertaking a high profile, high quality and complex commercial property caseload with minimal supervision.
The role will involve advising on complex, high-profile and politically sensitive matters to clients, and assisting with some supervisory support to non-qualified staff (legal assistants, legal officers and senior legal officers) within the team.
This role is initially a 6 month contract with the possibility to extend. This role is hybrid working.
Duties and Responsibilities but not limited to:
- Under the direction of the Team Manager or Head of Service, the post holder will undertake all types of legal work, providing general legal and procedural advice & support to enable the organisation to meet its legal obligations. Although the post holder will specialise in an area of the law, they will be required to work flexibility and with appropriate training work across several areas.
- Provide proactive legal support to the organisation, to enable its policy and strategic objectives to be met minimising the risk of legal challenge or complaints. Ensuring the advice and support given is concise and engaged with the required outcome.
- Advocate and/or negotiate on behalf of the City in courts, tribunals, committees and panels.
- Keep legal knowledge up to date, to carry out legal research and maintain a thorough knowledge of existing and impending legislation in relation to practice area.
- Assist and co-operate with other members of the team and other officers within the Legal Services Division and provide cover as required.
Personal Requirements:
- Capable of dealing with the full range of commercial property work including leases, disposals, acquisitions, overage, and development agreements.
- Experience of working in the public sector is not necessary but would be advantageous.
- Qualification to practice as a Solicitor, Barrister or FCILEx.
- Demonstrate knowledge and expertise in one of the following areas of practice relevant to the work of the team: Planning, Property, Transport/Highways.
- Demonstrate the ability to advise on complex and sensitive legal issues in a constructive and positive way.
- Demonstrate ability to undertake advocacy and/or negotiations.
- Demonstrate knowledge of local government law and the law in relation to the practice area.
Working Hours: 37hrs / 9:00am - 17:00pm / Monday to Friday
Pay: £60.00 p/h
