Randstad is currently recruiting for a Qualified Social Worker to join Bury Council's Duty and Assessment Team. This is a full-time position offering an excellent hourly rate of 39 per hour.

Responsibilities:

  • Respond promptly to new referrals, completing timely assessments under statutory duties, including Section 17 and Section 47 of the Children Act 1989

  • Conduct comprehensive Child & Family Assessments to determine needs, risks, and appropriate interventions

  • Make informed threshold decisions and identify the most appropriate level of support or intervention

  • Participate in multi-agency strategy discussions and joint visits with professionals such as police when safeguarding concerns arise

  • Lead Section 47 enquiries to assess and manage risk to children

  • Present cases at legal planning meetings and progress matters to PLO or court proceedings when necessary

  • Undertake meaningful direct work with children and families, ensuring their voice is central to assessment and planning

  • Collaborate with schools, health, early help services and other agencies to ensure effective, coordinated support

  • Produce clear, evidence-based reports for Child Protection Conferences, LAC Reviews, and court hearings

  • Apply the Signs of Safety model to assess and respond to risk and need

  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date case records on the case management system

  • Engage actively in team meetings, supervision, and reflective sessions

  • Manage a busy duty rota with a balance of urgent responses and planned assessments

Requirements:

  • Registration with Social Work England

  • A recognised Social Work degree or equivalent qualification

  • Enhanced DBS check

Experience:

  • Proven experience working within statutory Children's Services, particularly in Duty, Assessment, or Safeguarding teams

  • Skilled in completing Child & Family Assessments and managing Section 17 and Section 47 enquiries

  • Confident decision-making regarding thresholds, risk, and legal proceedings

  • Experienced in multi-agency working and representing the local authority in complex safeguarding matters

  • Strong understanding of legislative frameworks including the Children Act 1989 and related guidance

  • Able to work under pressure while maintaining high standards of practice and child-centred approaches

  • Competent in using case management systems and writing analytical, evidence-based reports
