Hours: Full time, Monday to Friday TERM TIME ONLY

Location: Cambridge

Role Purpose:

Youll be working closely with full-time students (ages 14 to 24+) to coach, guide and support them so they stay motivated and make good progress in their learning. Your goal is to help students succeed and move on to further study or jobs.

Youll be based in specific curriculum areas, teaming up with teaching staff to:

  • Offer pastoral support and help develop skills for students who need extra assistance or might be at risk of dropping out
  • Run one-on-one progress reviews
  • Help keep track of how students are doing and flag any issues
  • Point students toward extra help if required
  • Support the growth of the personal development (PD) curriculum

As part of the Student Support Services team, youll be seconded to one or more curriculum areas to offer both planned and responsive pastoral support. Your mission? To keep students engaged, motivated and on track to succeed in their studies.

** An enhanced DBS will be completed prior to starting this role **

Key Duties:

  • Pastoral support: Help students stay engaged and make good choices, whether theyre struggling or just need a bit of guidance.
  • Personal development: Create and share resources tailored to your department, working with the wider PD team to improve the curriculum.
  • Team player: Regularly attend PD and curriculum team meetings to stay aligned and share ideas.
  • Tutorials & Group Sessions: Lead engaging sessions to help students sharpen their maths and English skills.
  • 1:1 tutorials: Sit down with students to support their personal and academic growth.
  • Specialist services: Point students toward the right services when they need extra help.
  • Tech champion: Encourage independence by helping students use assistive tech like reading pens and software. Stay up-to-date with new tools through training.
  • Enrichment leader: Team up with the PD Coach and Enrichment Officer to manage and promote the cross-college enrichment program, showing how it boosts life skills for students.
  • Track & monitor: Work with the Assistant Head of Department to keep tabs on students with EHCPs or EAAs, tracking attendance and actions taken. Help gather info for EHCP reviews.
  • Team buddy: Help onboard new staff and act as a buddy to support them in getting settled.
  • 1:1 quiet/study room support: Provide focused support to learners in a calm environment.
  • Progress tracker: Support vocational staff in monitoring students flagged as needing extra attention.
  • Parent contact: Reach out to parents/guardians to discuss concerns or provide updates and support.
  • Course reviews: Contribute to department wide reviews to keep standards high.
  • Teaching cover: Step in to cover lessons as needed to ensure everything runs smoothly for students.
  • Training: Be open to learning new skills or tools that help you excel in your role.
  • Record keeping: Maintain accurate records in systems to track your work with students and their progress.

Key Skills/Experience Required:

  • A good standard of education
  • Experience in a similar role
  • Level 3 Award in Education and Training, or equivalent
  • Good basic knowledge of IT packages
  • A friendly and welcoming nature
  • The ability to work independently and as a team
