Assistant Head of Department - Sports & Uniformed Protective Services

In this role, you'll work alongside the Head of Department to provide strong leadership across their Sports and Uniformed Protective Services programmes, including Sports Studies, the Cambridge United Scholarship Programme and Uniformed Services. You'll lead on curriculum quality, staff development, student progress and industry engagement, ensuring every learner has the opportunity to thrive.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced teacher in FE, hold a Level 5+ teaching qualification, and bring proven experience of leadership or curriculum management. You'll also have excellent organisational skills, strong industry knowledge and the ability to inspire both colleagues and learners.

The Role


  • Supporting the Head of Department with leadership across Sports & Uniformed Protective Services

  • Driving curriculum quality, student achievement and progression

  • Leading, developing and motivating teaching and support staff

  • Monitoring performance, attendance and outcomes across the area

  • Building strong links with industry to enhance curriculum and work experience opportunities


The Person


  • Teaching qualification (DET, DTLLS, Cert Ed or PGCE)

  • Extensive teaching experience within FE (sports or uniformed services)

  • Proven leadership or curriculum management experience

  • Strong communication and organisational skills

  • Passion for education, innovation and inspiring others
