Test Engineer

We are currently looking for a test engineer to join an R&D department, based at our client's Cambridge office.

The successful candidate will be central to enabling continued R&D test and development activities and the transfer of the tested products into a production environment. This role would be well suited to a hands-on individual who has knowledge of the fundamentals of optics as well as data capture and analysis techniques.

Key responsibilities

  • Work with the R&D Physicist to assemble, test, analyse, and report on new opto-mechanical product developments.
  • Create and establish test setups, prepare test specifications and documentation.
  • Leverage understanding of optical systems to make suggestions for the improvement of new optical based products and subsystems.
  • Help to design, implement and sustain production testing fixtures and methods.
  • Help to carry out production test activities on complex optical systems, in line with requirements and procedures developed with the help of other R&D personnel and applications specialists.
  • Work to understand and address production issues related to opto-mechanical assemblies.

Core skills and experience:

  • A good knowledge of optics is required and a qualification in physics or a related discipline would be beneficial.
  • An experimental background is desirable.
  • Practical experience in mechanical assembly is required.
  • A base knowledge of computer-based data collection methods and hardware is desirable (e.g. matlab, visual studio, python).
  • A basic knowledge of fundamental mechanical design would be beneficial
