Job Summary:

We are looking for a skilled and experienced Garage Mechanic to inspect, maintain, and repair vehicles in our garage. The successful candidate will diagnose mechanical issues, perform routine servicing, and ensure all repairs are done to the highest safety and quality standards.

Description:

  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues in vehicles using diagnostic tools and manual inspection.
  • Perform routine vehicle maintenance, including oil changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, and fluid checks.
  • Conduct repairs on engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension systems, exhausts, and other vehicle components.
  • Replace or repair worn-out parts and test vehicles to confirm proper operation.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and parts used.
  • Ensure tools and equipment are used correctly and safely.
  • Comply with health and safety regulations and workshop cleanliness standards.
  • Liaise with customers or service advisors to explain repair work and answer technical questions.

Duties and responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance (e.g., oil changes, tire rotations, brake checks).
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues, hybrid and electric vehicle maintenance (increasingly common)
  • Repair or replace faulty parts (e.g., engines, transmissions, suspension systems).
  • Use diagnostic tools and software to identify issues.
  • Conduct road tests to assess vehicle performance.
  • Inspect vehicle systems (engine, brakes, exhaust, etc.)
  • Maintain accurate service records and logs.
  • Document repairs, parts used, and labour time.
  • Communicate service needs and costs to customers.
  • Explain technical issues to customers in understandable terms.
  • Provide cost and time estimates.
  • Advise on vehicle care and maintenance.
  • Use and maintain tools and machinery properly.
  • Keep the work area clean and organized.
  • Ensure safety procedures are followed.
  • Order parts and supplies as needed.
  • Monitor stock levels.
  • Return or dispose of unusable components.
Experience and qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required; automotive trade school certification is a plus
  • 2–5 years of hands-on experience as an automotive or garage mechanic
  • ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification preferred; willingness to earn certification if not already certified
  • Strong diagnostic skills using both manual and computerized tools
  • Proficient in repairing or replacing key vehicle systems, including brakes, steering, suspension, transmission, and HVAC
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and repair instructions
  • Experience working with both gas and diesel engines is a plus
  • Familiarity with modern vehicle electronics and onboard computer systems
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality work
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours, including weekends or evenings if needed
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (CDL a bonus for some roles)
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and standard shop procedures
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism
