EYFS SEND Teaching Assistant

Academics in Canterbury are looking for dedicated and nurturing EYFS SEND Teaching Assistants to support children with special educational needs in Nursery and Reception classes across a range of lovely schools in areas including Canterbury, Thanet, Dover, Whitstable/Herne Bay, Folkestone/Hythe, and surrounding villages. Whether you're looking for full-time, part-time, or flexible day-to-day work, we have opportunities to suit your availability and experience.

This is a highly rewarding role, where you'll be supporting young children to access learning, develop confidence, and achieve their full potential during the most formative years of their education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one or small group support to children with SEND in EYFS settings
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering tailored activities that support individual learning needs
  • Foster a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment
  • Support children's communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation
  • Work closely with SENCOs, teachers, and external specialists to implement and monitor personalised support plans
  • Assist with everyday routines, including personal care and transitions
  • Record observations and contribute to reviews of progress and development
  • Promote safeguarding and contribute to the overall wellbeing of the children

What We Are Looking For:

  • Experience working with children with SEND, ideally within an Early Years or primary school setting
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting young learners
  • Strong understanding of EYFS and child development
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
  • Flexibility to work across different schools and settings
  • A good understanding of safeguarding and a commitment to pupil welfare
  • Right to work in the UK
