SEN Teaching Assistant - Canterbury
We are currently working with a specialist SEMH school in Canterbury who are looking to appoint a dedicated and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting vulnerable young people and helping them overcome barriers to learning in a structured, nurturing environment.
The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:
Support pupils with SEMH needs on a 1:1 and small group basis
Help manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour using positive behaviour strategies
Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to promote engagement and emotional regulation
Assist the class teacher with adapted learning activities and classroom support
Provide consistent pastoral support throughout the school day
The Ideal Candidate
Experience working with SEMH, challenging behaviour, or additional needs (school, care, youth work, or similar)
Calm, patient, and resilient approach
Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with pupils
A genuine passion for supporting young people with complex needs
SEN TA experience is ideal, but graduates or support workers with relevant experience are encouraged to apply
