SEN Teaching Assistant - Canterbury

We are currently working with a specialist SEMH school in Canterbury who are looking to appoint a dedicated and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting vulnerable young people and helping them overcome barriers to learning in a structured, nurturing environment.



The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support pupils with SEMH needs on a 1:1 and small group basis

  • Help manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour using positive behaviour strategies

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to promote engagement and emotional regulation

  • Assist the class teacher with adapted learning activities and classroom support

  • Provide consistent pastoral support throughout the school day



The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience working with SEMH, challenging behaviour, or additional needs (school, care, youth work, or similar)

  • Calm, patient, and resilient approach

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with pupils

  • A genuine passion for supporting young people with complex needs

  • SEN TA experience is ideal, but graduates or support workers with relevant experience are encouraged to apply
