Mechanical Field Service Engineer - Power Generation

This is a field-based Mechanical Field Service Engineer / Mechanical Technician / Mechanical Fitter position covering Essex, Kent, London, and the wider Southeast, focusing on mechanical maintenance and repairs within the Power Generation and heavy engineering sectors.

The role holder will be responsible for service, repair, and maintenance of rotating and static equipment across a range of industrial sites, supporting both planned and reactive maintenance as well as project work and outages.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Carry out mechanical repairs and maintenance to rotating machinery including large turbines, pumps (including boiler feedwater multi-stage), compressors, and associated Balance of Plant (gearboxes, conveyors, valves, and coolers).
  • Conduct fault finding, diagnosis, and condition assessments on a range of heavy industrial equipment.
  • Carry out workshop and field-based service activities, ensuring detailed reports are produced covering findings, critical tolerances, and recommendations.
  • Perform precision mechanical maintenance using micrometres, DTI's, laser alignment, and other precision measurement tools.
  • Work independently to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical faults on-site.
  • Ensure all repairs and maintenance activities meet manufacturers' standards and comply with industry legislation.
  • Support and lead planned projects and major outage work as required.
  • Maintain a strong focus on health & safety, ensuring all site activities are carried out to company and client standards.

Requirements

  • Full UK Driving Licence (essential).
  • Apprentice-trained, ideally with an indentured apprenticeship.
  • NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience working with rotating equipment and mechanical plant within power stations, water/wastewater, petrochemical, or similar heavy industries.
  • Proficient in precision measurement and alignment techniques.
  • Comfortable working across multiple sites across Essex, Kent, London, and surrounding areas.

Package Details

  • Salary between 40,000 and 48,000 per annum (depending on experience).
  • Monday to Friday role with a 1-in-5 call-out rota.
  • Excellent training and development opportunities with scope for overtime.
  • Field Service Package includes Van, Tools, and Fuel Card.
  • Overtime paid at 1.5x minimum.
