This position offers the opportunity to provide clinical management and leadership, ensuring the highest standards of patient care and operational excellence. Deputy Ward Manager Role Overview:
  • Provide senior nursing leadership, supporting the Ward Manager and guiding the nursing team.
  • Apply policies and statutory requirements within the ward and wider hospital framework.
  • Assess and manage risk across the ward environment, ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Supervise and support a defined group of staff, overseeing CPD, mandatory training, and appraisals.
  • Act as a mentor and role model, encouraging a culture of learning, development, and innovation.
  • Implement, monitor, and evaluate therapeutic interventions to support recovery and coping strategies.
  • Contribute to effective Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) collaboration, ensuring holistic patient care.
  • Lead shifts and provide clinical supervision to a designated nursing team.
  • Take on lead responsibilities within the ward as agreed with the Ward Manager.
  • Deputise for the Ward Manager when required, maintaining continuity of leadership.
Skills & Qualifications Required:
  • Extensive clinical experience in mental health nursing with proven leadership capabilities.
  • Strong understanding of Mental Health Act legislation and statutory care requirements.
  • Ability to assess, manage, and mitigate risks within a ward setting.
