This is a full-time, shift-based Commissioning Shift Team Leader / Commissioning Supervisor position at a new-build Energy from Waste (EfW) facility in Essex, focusing on the safe and efficient commissioning of power generation systems and plant operations.
The role holder will lead a team of Operators during the commissioning phase, ensuring all systems are safely brought online, optimised, and transitioned into full commercial operation. You'll be a key point of contact for technical troubleshooting, performance monitoring, and implementing best practices across the plant.
Role & Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise a team of Control Room and Field Operators during plant commissioning and early operations.
- Oversee start-up, testing, and optimisation of boilers, turbines, flue gas treatment, and auxiliary systems.
- Monitor plant performance through the DCS/SCADA system, ensuring operational targets and safety standards are met.
- Take responsibility for safe system isolation, permit to work, and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Work closely with the Commissioning Manager and contractors to resolve issues and achieve key project milestones.
- Ensure all commissioning activities comply with environmental and health & safety regulations.
- Maintain clear and accurate shift logs, records, and reports on commissioning progress and plant status.
- Support training and development of the operations team as the plant transitions to steady-state operation.
- Carry out regular plant inspections and fault diagnosis, escalating technical problems as needed.
- Participate in site meetings and provide input to commissioning strategy and continuous improvement plans.
Requirements
- Relevant engineering qualification - HNC/HND or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical, or Process Engineering.
- Strong experience in commissioning and operating large-scale power generation or EfW plants.
- Proven track record in team leadership within a shift-based environment.
- Good working knowledge of boilers, steam turbines, flue gas treatment, and balance of plant systems.
- Strong understanding of DCS/SCADA systems and control room operations.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving and organisational skills.
- Good understanding of health, safety, and environmental compliance.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Package Details
- Salary is around 75,000 per annum.
- This role is worked on a 12-hour shift pattern - (days and nights).
