Role Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Engineering Technical Support Assistant to join the School of Engineering and Built Environment (EBE). This role involves providing technical expertise and creative solutions to support staff, students, and external clients in delivering practical engineering modules and projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Interpret requirements and provide technical support for engineering modules and practical activities.
Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety regulations, maintaining accurate records for laboratory, workshop, and fieldwork activities.
Manage and maintain accurate logs of chemicals, consumables, and equipment within laboratories and workshops.
Oversee the servicing, maintenance, and repair of all equipment, ensuring operational readiness.
Maintain records of equipment loans and returns.
Advise on pricing and purchasing of equipment and software in collaboration with relevant staff.
Assist staff, postgraduate students, and external partners with workshop-based tasks using specialized equipment.
Liaise with external contractors and Estates for minor projects as required.
Diagnose and resolve faults with workshop equipment, software, and processes.
Support students in open workshop sessions, guiding projects and adapting practical methods to meet requirements.
Attend meetings to represent technical services and contribute to standard work activities.
Ensure compliance with Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR in all working practices.
Essential Skills & Knowledge
Strong technical knowledge and practical experience in engineering workshop environments.
Comprehensive understanding of Health & Safety regulations relevant to engineering laboratories and workshops.
Ability to maintain accurate records and manage inventory effectively.
Problem-solving skills for diagnosing and rectifying technical issues.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with staff, students, and external stakeholders.
Desirable
Experience in advising on equipment purchasing and budgeting.
Familiarity with specialized engineering equipment and software.
