Pastoral Officer - Alternative Provision (Chesterfield & North Derbyshire)
Location: Chesterfield, with travel across North Derbyshire
Contract: Long-term to Perm, Full-Time (37 hours per week, Term Time Only)
Pay: 100-105 per day

Long Term Futures is working in partnership with a highly supportive and progressive alternative education provider in Chesterfield to recruit a Pastoral Officer to join their safeguarding team. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a genuine impact on the lives of young people who require tailored support outside of mainstream settings.

The Role:
In this key role, you will work closely with a well-established safeguarding team, including senior leaders and safeguarding officers, to ensure pupils are protected and supported effectively. You will be responsible for identifying students at risk, coordinating with families and professionals, and helping to address attendance issues through proactive pastoral care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond to safeguarding concerns with urgency and professional judgement, following KCSIE guidance

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, families, and external agencies

  • Plan and manage your own caseload and diary, balancing site visits, home-based work, and emergency response

  • Work across multiple sites and alternative provision settings in North Derbyshire

  • Support student attendance as a key element of safeguarding

About You:
We're looking for someone with:

  • A solid understanding of safeguarding practices and thresholds

  • Experience supporting young people in alternative or mainstream educational environments

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to manage sensitive conversations with care

  • A proactive and resilient mindset, able to work independently and flexibly

  • Access to your own vehicle and business insurance (mileage reimbursed)

  • A natural ability to engage with pupils who present with emotional, behavioural, or social challenges
