About the Learning Support Assistant Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work as agency staff across a specialist SEN school supporting pupils with a range of needs, including:

  • Autism (ASC)

  • ADHD

  • SEMH

  • Challenging behaviour

  • Learning difficulties

  • PMLD

Your work as a Learning Support Assistant may include:

  • Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis

  • Assisting with small group interventions

  • Supporting the class teacher during whole-class learning

  • Helping pupils regulate emotions, behaviour, and sensory needs

This is a supply / agency Learning Support Assistant role, meaning work may be offered on an ad-hoc, short-term, or long-term basis. While work cannot be guaranteed, many Learning Support Assistants secure regular placements and long-term opportunities.

Training & Development

If you are new to education, Vision for Education will provide FREE online training, including:

  • SEND awareness

  • Behaviour management

  • Challenging behaviour strategies

  • Safeguarding and child protection

  • Introduction to becoming a Teaching Assistant

Following a successful interview and completion of safeguarding and identity checks, we will work to place you into a paid Learning Support Assistant role within a school setting to build hands-on experience.

Before starting your placement, you will complete a comprehensive training programme delivered by Vision for Education and school leaders. This ensures every Learning Support Assistant is well-prepared, confident, and supported from day one.

Learning Support Assistants play a vital role in the day-to-day success of schools. The most effective Learning Support Assistants are caring, adaptable, and able to build strong relationships with pupils, staff, and families.

Requirements – Learning Support Assistant

To be considered for this Learning Support Assistant role, you will need to:

  • Have a strong passion for supporting children and young people

  • Be committed to improving outcomes for pupils with additional needs

  • Be willing to complete training and ongoing CPD

  • Be prepared to obtain an Enhanced DBS check and register with the Update Service

Experience in education or care is desirable but not essential.

Pay & Benefits

Pay: £13.68 - £15.00 per hour (PAYE)
Pay rates may vary depending on experience, training, or qualifications.
