About the Role:

We are seeking a passionate and resilient Teaching Assistant to support students with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD). The successful candidate will work in a dedicated specialist setting where pupils have complex needs including physical disabilities, medical needs, sensory impairments, and severe learning difficulties.

You will play a pivotal role in enabling these young people to access education in a safe, supportive, and sensory-rich environment. This is a highly rewarding role for someone who thrives on meaningful interaction and helping others succeed at their own pace.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils on a 1:1 and small group basis across curriculum activities
  • Provide personal care, including feeding, toileting, and moving & handling
  • Use visual, sensory and assistive communication methods (e.g., PECS, Makaton, AAC)
  • Monitor emotional and physical wellbeing, ensuring comfort and dignity at all times
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, and families to implement EHCP targets
  • Adapt learning resources and support access to activities like hydrotherapy or rebound therapy

Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience supporting individuals with profound or complex needs
  • A nurturing, patient, and non-judgmental approach
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills
  • Manual handling and basic medical training (preferred, not essential)
  • A commitment to inclusive education and equality of opportunity
