Join a globally renowned technology leader in North Somerset as an Associate Principal Mechanical Engineer and lead innovative mechanical design solutions for state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment.

Reporting to the Mechanical Design Engineering Manager, you will oversee a talented team of engineers, managing projects from concept through to customer commissioning and field trials. This role offers the chance to deliver safe, compliant, and high-quality solutions on time and within budget, working closely with cross-functional teams, including project managers, manufacturing, service, and customer representatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and inspire a team of approximately six mechanical engineers, fostering collaboration, setting clear objectives, and holding regular 1:1 meetings to ensure project success.
  • Champion best-practice mechanical engineering to optimise project delivery in terms of time, cost, quality, and compliance, ensuring robust technical governance for safety and reliability.
  • Allocate and manage work packages across cross-functional teams, guiding projects through to production and completion.
  • Ensure designs meet stakeholder requirements and comply with relevant regulations, directives, and standards.
  • Mentor engineers, supporting their professional development, including training and pathways to professional registration.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering ; Master’s Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards registration with a recognised engineering institution .
  • Accreditation or formal qualifications in Functional Safety
  • Extensive mechanical engineering and design experience in a relevant industry (Essential).
  • Strong knowledge of product safety and compliance in regulated environments, with familiarity with standards such as EN 61511 and safety/design review methods (e.g., PHA, HAZOP, LOPA, FMEA)
  • Proven expertise across the full product lifecycle, from concept to production.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development through training and other opportunities.
  • In-depth expertise in best-practice mechanical engineering principles.
  • Outstanding communication skills, clearly conveying technical requirements to engineers, project managers, and wider teams.
