Job Description / Job Scope:
* Working with stakeholders, develop a consolidated funding strategy to support the technical, research and commercial goals of UKAEA's Fusion Technology programme across key technical areas in materials and manufacturing, radiation characterization, thermal hydraulics and liquid metals, magnet technologies and whole plant modelling and integration.
* Identify, develop and sustain key relationships with national and international partners in fusion and in other high tech areas (fission, space, defence, etc) to support strategy realization.
* Map existing funding opportunities and review internal funding proposals for alignment and leverage against strategic programmes and meaningful collaborations.
* Create opportunities to shape the funding landscape with strategic partners.
* Structure funding frameworks, secure partnerships, and ensure alignment with institutional and financial objectives.
* Stay informed on industry trends, government policies, and economic changes that impact funding opportunities.
* Support the development of internal processes to enable the funding strategy.
* Lead, motivate and communicate effectively across the senior leadership and project teams.
* Embed and realise UKAEAs EDI and Social Value goals.
Qualifications Required:
Masters or PhD in a technical science/engineering topic (preferred)
Experience Required
* Extensive experience securing and managing research grants, government funding, or private investments.
* Experience in developing long-term funding strategies aligned with institutional or organisational goals.
* Demonstratable understanding of compliance, reporting requirements, and best practices for funding applications.
* Excellent writing and communication skills.
* Knowledge and experience of business case writing and development.
* Substantial experience in working with a diverse range of senior stakeholders and external partners, ideally with an element of public funding.
* Knowledge of the UK fusion sector and UK fusion strategy (preferred)
* Extensive experience in or engaging with industry in the science and engineering sectors.
* Strong commercial awareness with the ability to make sound economic decisions that maximise programme value.
