We’re delighted to be supporting a long-established, forward-thinking accountancy firm in their search for a Head of Accounting to lead their client services and accounting function.

This is a key leadership position designed to enable the firm’s Managing Director to step fully into a CEO role. As such, this role sits at the top of the accounting team, offering a fantastic opportunity for an experienced practice professional to help shape the next phase of growth and transformation within the business.

The firm:

With over 50 years in business and a young, vibrant team, this firm is undergoing an exciting period of evolution, including a rebrand and strategic expansion plan. You’ll be working closely with both the CEO and will play a central role in streamlining operations, delivering high-level advisory services, and mentoring a team of 13.

Key responsibilities:

  • Act as client manager for new high-value clients and take over an established portfolio from the current Director
  • Oversee and review the work of managers across the accounting function
  • Establish and lead a virtual finance office/director (VFO/VFD) service offering
  • Play a pivotal role in setting up an offshore team in the Philippines
  • Drive process improvement and implement efficient systems for internal use and client delivery
  • Produce advanced management reports using cloud-based tools (notably Xero)
  • Build strong, lasting relationships with clients and uncover tax opportunities in collaboration with the tax team
  • Develop and document SOPs for consistency and scalability across the business
  • Support the growth of the firm through business development and identifying new client opportunities

About you:

  • ACA or ICAS qualified (ACCA considered), with 10+ years post-qualified experience
  • 15+ years in practice, with at least 5 years in team and client management roles
  • Confident reviewing and signing off work, managing workloads, and setting internal deadlines
  • Commercially aware, strategic, and a natural problem solver
  • A confident communicator, able to lead, motivate, and inspire a team
  • Strong working knowledge of cloud-based software, especially Xero
  • Comfortable dealing with HMRC and handling client tax matters
  • Leadership qualities with a proactive, solutions-focused mindset
