Were supporting a global leader in advanced engineering and solutions in their search for a Principal Systems Engineer. This role sits at the heart of a major strategic capability build, supporting some of the most complex programmes in the UK.


As Principal Systems Engineer, youll apply deep expertise in model-based systems engineering (MBSE) to guide the end-to-end engineering lifecyclefrom customer needs analysis through to design, validation, and integration. Youll lead modelling efforts across the product system, ensuring technical accuracy and operational performance are mapped clearly and efficiently.


This is a hands-on technical leadership role with visibility across key engineering activities, providing you with the opportunity to directly influence system outcomes, mentor others, and support programme delivery at a critical stage of national importance.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead MBSE modelling activities across system requirements, architecture, and validation stages.

  • Translate customer and user needs into integrated, traceable system design models.

  • Provide technical oversight for system integration and design proving evidence.

  • Track engineering delivery status, resolve blockers, and support change control.

  • Develop junior engineers and embed MBSE best practices across project teams.


Essential Experience Required:

  • Proven track record as a Principal Systems Engineer or equivalent, with expertise in defence, maritime, or adjacent industries.

  • Strong background in MBSE processes and their practical application across engineering lifecycles.

  • Proficiency in SysML and experience using industry-standard tools such as Enterprise Architect (EA).

  • Familiarity with safety, environmental, and engineering regulatory standards.

  • Broad understanding of system-level engineering and platform-level integration challenges.
