Mechanical Design Engineer

We’re seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join a dynamic and forward-thinking engineering business. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing, developing, and improving products across a diverse portfolio. You’ll work on innovative projects, drive continuous improvement, and support the transition of designs from concept through to production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical products in line with technical specifications and performance requirements
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance existing designs, processes, and materials
  • Convert legacy 2D design data into 3D models using modern CAD software
  • Produce accurate component and assembly drawings suitable for manufacture
  • Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BoMs) to support product release into production
  • Identify opportunities for value engineering within active and future projects
  • Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing partners to define and agree technical specifications
  • Work proactively with internal teams across multiple sites, including international colleagues
  • Contribute to the development and testing of prototypes to evaluate performance and functionality
  • Support improvements in manufacturing methods and product quality
  • Use advanced Excel tools to analyse data and support design decisions

Candidate ProfileQualifications

  • HND or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related discipline

Experience

Essential:

  • Proven background in metal product design or similar manufacturing environments
  • Strong design fundamentals with a rigorous approach to detail
  • Experience applying Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) principles
  • Strong CAD skills with experience in 3D modelling and technical drawing
  • Confident user of Microsoft Excel with experience using formulas and automations

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in consumer or industrial product design
  • Exposure to CAM software or manufacturing integration tools
  • Knowledge of electrical or electronic design principles
  • Familiarity with injection moulding and/or additive manufacturing (3D printing)
