Environmental Health Officer
South London
30-40 Per Hour

Daniel Owen are proud to be representing a Local Council in the South London area who are looking for a Environmental Health Officer to join their team on a contract basis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To investigate all relevant service requests in accordance with Divisional procedures and ensure that remedial action is undertaken. To specifically carry out public health complaint investigations and take enforcement action where necessary in accordance with relevant legislation.
  • Provide advice to members of the public and business to assist in compliance with legislation.
  • To investigate relevant service requests in accordance with Divisional procedures and ensure that remedial action is undertaken.
  • Prepare statutory notices within delegated responsibilities and attend court where necessary.
  • Provide specialist technical support within the Division and to other Council departments as required.
  • To attend relevant meetings as the Divisional representative.
  • Undertake relevant promotional work and talks to residents and organisations as required.
  • Maintain a current knowledge of relevant specialisms and to undertake further training as required.
  • Take part in the training and instruction of trainees in the specialist areas of responsibility.
  • Undertake any other duties commensurate with the level of the post, as required to ensure the efficient and effective running of the Department / Section.

Key Knowledge:

  • NEBOSH/IEMA
  • Good working knowledge of legislation (EPA 1990, PDPA 1949, COPA 1974, ASB, Crime & Policing 2014 etc) and practices associated with the provision of an environmental health service.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Environmental Health database software

Other Requirements

  • Experience of working with the relevant legislation and/or in a related area.
  • Experience of working within a local authority would be an advantage.
  • Experience of computer systems, including databases, spreadsheets and GIS.
  • Experience of air quality modelling an advantage
  • Full driving licence for car.
  • Flexible work arrangements and prepared to work out of normal office hours.
