Special Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA - ASD & Behaviour Support)

Full Time | November Start

An inclusive and supportive primary school in Croydon is seeking an experienced Special Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to join their team from November. This full-time role will involve working in Key Stage 2 (Year 4), providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with Autism (ASD) and challenging behaviour.



Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with ASD, communication difficulties, and behavioural needs to access learning.

  • Implement individual support plans (EHCPs) and behaviour management strategies.

  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external specialists to promote positive learning outcomes.

  • Create a calm, structured, and supportive environment to help pupils reach their potential.



Candidate Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of experience supporting children with SEN, ideally within a primary school.

  • Strong understanding of ASD, SEMH, and behaviour support strategies.

  • Patient, empathetic, and able to de-escalate challenging situations calmly.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

  • Up-to-date safeguarding training (or willingness to complete before starting).
