Role Overview

Our client is appointing a dedicated and detail-oriented Chef Manager to oversee the catering service within a busy secondary school in Devon. This position requires a highly organised individual capable of balancing hands-on cooking with effective leadership, compliance management, and financial oversight.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Excellence

  • Manage the full day-to-day kitchen operation including breakfast, break, and lunch services.

  • Maintain high culinary standards while meeting all nutritional requirements.

  • Oversee kitchen preparation, food presentation, and workflow planning.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead a team of catering assistants, ensuring high morale, communication, and performance.

  • Identify training opportunities and support skill progression within the team.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure the kitchen consistently achieves compliance excellence across all audits.

  • Maintain accurate record-keeping for food safety, cleaning schedules, and equipment checks.

  • Uphold a culture of safety-first practices throughout the team.

Financial & Stock Management

  • Manage stock rotation, ordering, delivery checks, and waste reduction.

  • Monitor budget performance and ensure cost-effective operations.

Skills & Experience
  • Chef Manager experience within education or volume catering environments.

  • Strong compliance knowledge and attention to detail.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a busy service environment.
