Client Details

Leading Housing Association are looking to recruit a Financial Accountant on a permanent basis. This is a technical accounting role with fixed asset and Capital accounting

Description

This role will lead and manage all fixed asset and balance sheet accounting while providing technical accounting expertise to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, enhance financial reporting, and to improve operational processes. This role will provide technical and accounting support to the Finance team. You will be managing two members of staff.

  • Manage the monthly Balance Sheet reporting of group and subsidiary companies. This includes ensuring all fixed assets (additions and disposals of housing and other assets), capitalisation, grant and depreciation are accounted for correctly. You will lead a team of two, providing coaching, development support, and performance management.
  • Provide guidance on financial compliance, processes, and policies to the wider Finance team and business. This will include the preparation of accounting policy papers in line with applicable accounting standards, review of changes to the Capital Funding Guide and presenting complex issues clearly to aid business decisions.
  • Manage the control process to ensure the integrity of all accounting records, ensuring regular reconciliations are prepared and reviewed. This includes regular reconciliations between asset and accounting databases.
  • Assist in the preparation of the Annual Financial Statements with specific responsibility for impairment reviews, fixed asset notes, leases, and subsidiary financial statements. You will be the key contact to our external auditors on all balance sheet and fixed asset information as well as responsibility for all associated regulatory returns.
  • Responsibility for the budgeting and regular reforecasting of asset sales, fixed assets, all capitalisation, depreciation, RCGF and DPF. You will liaise and work very closely with the Senior Accountant on all aspects of your role.
  • Provide external and internal auditors with the information they require in carrying out their audit work.
  • Responsible for all tax computations, ensuring these are prepared and submitted. Provide tax advice including liaising with external advisors as required.
  • Monitor, maintain and regularly test operational controls, updating all procedural control and process documentation (including process maps)
  • Assist in the implementation of new and existing financial systems (including upgrades, testing and feedback).

Profile

Proficient in numerical analysis and interpretation.

  • Experience of using financial database ledger systems.
  • Detailed knowledge of current financial reporting standards.
  • Experience in working in financial accounting functions.
  • Detailed knowledge of current financial reporting standards relevant to the sector.
  • Detailed knowledge of Corporation Tax and VAT regulations.
  • Strong reconciliation skills.
  • Understanding of capital appraisals and fixed asset accounting
