Quantity Surveyor | M&E Contracting | NEC 3 & 4

 

A well-established engineering business is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to manage the commercial delivery of high-value subcontract works across specialist pump and plant solutions projects.

Based in Dartford with regular site travel, this is a key commercial role focused on ensuring contractual compliance, financial accuracy, and project profitability across major infrastructure and environmental schemes.

About the Role

Operating as part of a collaborative project delivery team, you’ll take ownership of subcontractor procurement, onboarding, commercial reporting, and final accounts for large and technically complex orders.

This is a delivery-focused role requiring hands-on knowledge of NEC contracts and previous experience supporting M&E works. You'll be responsible for financial tracking from initial award through to final account – ensuring strong commercial controls are in place.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage commercial control of multiple projects from award to final account
  • Oversee subcontract procurement and onboarding processes
  • Review and negotiate pricing, variations, EoT claims, and cost/value reconciliations
  • Lead commercial meetings with internal stakeholders and support project managers
  • Maintain accurate financial reports including CVRs, forecasts, and cashflow models
  • Work closely with Solutions and Installation teams to ensure financial alignment
  • Ensure subcontract works are procured cost-effectively and in line with project goals
  • Support contract mobilisation, manage risk, and ensure contractual compliance
  • Identify and implement areas of commercial improvement across projects

Skills & Experience Required

  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management
  • Strong experience with NEC 3 & 4 subcontracts – essential
  • Previous background in M&E contracting or complex technical environments in industrial or infrastructure environments
  • Experience managing subcontract works and large-value commercial packages
  • RICS qualified or working towards (desirable)
  • Strong communicator with leadership presence – able to guide internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent record keeping and financial accuracy under tight deadlines
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to resolve issues and make sound commercial decisions
  • Full UK driving licence – willingness to travel to project sites
