Role Overview:
As a Speech and Language Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the school's Speech and Language Therapists, as well as classroom teachers, to provide tailored support for children with speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN). Your role will involve delivering interventions in individual and small group settings to help students develop skills in areas such as articulation, language comprehension, social communication, and vocabulary building.

You will be an integral part of the school's inclusive approach, helping children overcome communication barriers and fully engage with the curriculum. The role offers a fantastic opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of children who require additional support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the delivery of speech and language therapy programs under the direction of the Speech and Language Therapist.
  • Provide individual and group support to students working on speech, language, and communication goals.
  • Develop and implement speech and language activities, adjusting them based on the needs of the children.
  • Track and monitor progress, providing feedback to the Speech and Language Therapist and classroom teachers.
  • Support classroom teachers in adapting resources and activities to meet the needs of students with communication challenges.
  • Help create a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students, especially those with SLCN.
  • Foster a supportive and encouraging atmosphere to build students' confidence in their communication skills.

Key Requirements:

  • Experience working with children, particularly those with speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN) or other additional needs (desirable but not essential).
  • A strong passion for supporting children's language and communication development.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with both children and staff.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine commitment to improving students' learning experiences.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Relevant qualifications or experience in child development, education, or speech and language support (desired but not essential).
  • Experience working in schools is advantageous.
