Education Personnel are seeking an inspiring and dedicated Alternative Provision Teacher to join our compassionate team in Derbyshire. This is a unique opportunity to work with young people who, for a variety of reasons, require a tailored and flexible approach to their education.

Education Personnel are working with an Alternative Provision who we provide a nurturing and inclusive environment for students who have faced barriers to mainstream education.

They believe in unlocking potential and fostering a love of learning through personalised curricula and holistic support. We are committed to supporting the school to re-engaging young people with education and preparing them for positive futures. Our small class sizes and dedicated support staff allow us to focus on individual needs and celebrate every success.

  • Salary: MPS/UPS plus SEN allowance (if applicable)
  • Location: Derby
  • Hours: Full time

The Role:

As an Alternative Provision Teacher, you will be instrumental in:

  • Designing and delivering engaging, personalised lessons across a range of subjects, adapting your approach to meet diverse learning styles and needs.
  • Building strong, positive relationships with students who may have experienced trauma, mental health challenges, or social/emotional difficulties.
  • Creating a safe, supportive, and stimulating learning environment that fosters self-esteem, confidence, and a sense of belonging.
  • Developing and implementing individualised learning plans (ILPs) that address academic, social, emotional, and behavioural needs.
  • Collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary team, including teaching assistants, therapists, and external agencies, to provide holistic support.
  • Monitoring and tracking student progress, celebrating achievements, and adapting strategies to ensure positive outcomes.
  • Supporting students with their reintegration into mainstream education or successful transitions to further education, training, or employment (if applicable).

We're Looking for Someone Who:

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Has demonstrable experience working with young people who have complex needs, including SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) and/or SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities).
  • Is a highly adaptable, creative, and resilient practitioner with a proven ability to differentiate learning and manage challenging behaviours positively.
  • Possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to build rapport with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Is passionate about making a tangible difference in the lives of vulnerable learners.
  • Has a strong understanding of trauma-informed practice (desirable).
  • Experience in delivering vocational subjects or functional skills (desirable).
